Incorporating the Unit of Competence:

HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This course is suitable for the general public, organisations and corporate clients and will provide participants with the knowledge to confidently provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation .

 

This course can be contextualised to suit your specific requirements (fitness, trades, mining etc.).

Entry Requirements: It is recommended that students have sufficient literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete the course. There is no pre-requisite for this unit. Recommended for students over 14yrs only.

 

Core Content:

  • Working knowledge of:

    • Principles of First Aid, legal Issues

    • DRsABCD Emergency Action plan

    • Infectious Diseases and Hygiene

    • Management of the Unconscious Casualty

    • Airway Management

    • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Adult, Child & Infant

    • Choking

    • Understanding the use of an AED

    • Basic Human Anatomy and Physiology

Target Audience: This course is suitable for anyone requiring a CPR certificate for the workplace, recreational purposes, sporting or home use

Programme Duration & Flexibility: 2.5 hours face-to-face delivery. No pre-course work required.

 

Training & Assessment Methods: Training and assessment is conducted in a friendly classroom setting that reflects a real emergency environment. Training may include but in not limited to practical class sessions, written work, self-paced activities, group discussions, debate and practical work.

Requirements for Completion:100% attendance and participation.

 

Qualification Issued: Statement of Attainment –HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The course is nationally recognised through inclusion on the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). Workplace Approved throughout Australia.

Incorporating the Unit(s) of Competence: Provide advanced first aid HLTAID006- also includes Provide CPR HLTAID001 & Provide first aid HLTAID003. This unit deals with the provision of advanced first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers This course can be contextualised to suit your specific requirements.

 

Entry Requirements: It is recommended that students have sufficient literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete the course.

There is no pre-requisite for this unit.

Recommended for students over 14yrs only.

 

Core Content:

  • Working knowledge of:

  • ARC Guidelines, guidelines of Australian national peak clinical bodies and/or State/Territory regulations, legislation and policies relating to provision of first aid

  • basic anatomy (skeleton, muscles, joints, bones), physiology and toxicology

  • capabilities of emergency management services

  • company/organisation standard operating procedures (SOPs)

  • first aiders’ skills and limitations

  • how to gain access to and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS)

  • infection control principles and procedures, including using standard precautions

  • legal responsibilities and duty of care, including confidentiality

  • priorities of management in first aid

  • procedures for dealing with major and minor accidents in the workplace

  • work health and safety requirements in the provision of first aid.

 

Target Audience: Provide advanced first aid HLTAID006

HLTAID003 – Provide first aid  This course is suitable for the general public, organisations and corporate clients and will provide participants with the knowledge to confidently provide first aid & CPR. 

 

This course can be contextualised to suit your specific requirements. Life support, and management of casualty(s), until the arrival of medical or other assistance, and provision of support to other providers.

 

Entry Requirements: It is recommended that students have sufficient literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete the course.

There is no pre-requisite for this unit. Recommended for students over 14yrs only.

 

Core Content:

  • Working knowledge of:

    • abdominal injuries

    • allergic reactions

    • altered and loss of consciousness

    • asthma

    • anaphylaxis

    • bleeding

    • burns – thermal, chemical, friction, electrical

    • cardiac arrest

    • chest pain

    • choking/airway obstruction

    • drowning

    • envenomation – snake, spider, insect and marine bites and stings

    • environmental impact such as hypothermia, hyperthermia, dehydration, heat stroke

    • injuries- cold and crush injuries; eye and ear injuries; head, neck and spinal injuries; minor skin injuries; needle stick injuries; soft tissue injuries including sprains, strains, dislocations, fractures

    • medical conditions, including cardiac conditions, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma and other respiratory conditions

    • poisoning and toxic substances (including chemical contamination)

    • respiratory distress

    • seizures

    • shock

    • stroke

    • substance misuse – common drugs and alcohol, including illicit drugs

    • unconsciousness, not breathing or not breathing normally

    • Guidelines for provision of first aid as outlined in Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines and guidelines of Australian national peak clinical bodies and State / Territory legislation and regulations

    • Social / legal issues including:

    • duty of care

    • confidentiality

    • importance of debriefing

    • need to be culturally aware, sensitive and respectful

    • own skills and limitations

    • Understanding of:

    • basic work health and safety requirements in the provision of first aid

    • basic principles and concepts underlying the practice of first aid

    • chain of survival

    • infection control principles and procedures, including use of standard precautions

    • priorities of management in first aid when dealing with life threatening conditions
